Frequently Asked Questions

How is the DSH text production (Textproduktion) graded?

The DSH assesses your text in two blocks: content and structure (completeness, coherent thread, topic development) and linguistic realisation (accuracy, word choice, sentence construction). Each university sets the exact weighting itself — at many, language counts more than content.

Does language or content count more in the DSH?

At many universities language counts more — often around 60 to 40 in favour of linguistic accuracy. The 2019 nationwide framework explicitly requires weighting the linguistic aspects more heavily (the older rule was closer to the opposite). In practice: clean grammar and word choice often decide more than one extra content point.

What percentage do you need to pass the DSH?

The levels follow the percentage score: DSH-1 from about 57 percent, DSH-2 from about 67 percent, DSH-3 from about 82 percent. For admission most universities require at least DSH-2. Below roughly 57 percent the exam counts as not passed.
